Body Found in Water Near National Airport

District of Columbia police are investigating the discovery of a body in the waterway near Reagan National Airport.

Police spokesman Officer Hugh Carew says the body was discovered just before noon Saturday in the water near the southern end of the airport.

Police were called to the 3800 block of Thomas Avenue in Arlington, Virginia, and recovered the body from a tributary of the Potomac River.

Carew says D.C. police are responsible for any investigations in the waterway up to the shoreline.

Carew says police are awaiting identification of the body from the medical examiner and details on whether the body was that of a man or a woman.
