Blue, Yellow Line Stations Near Reagan National Airport Closed Veterans Day Weekend, Including Monday

The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Crystal City stations will remain closed through Monday

The Metro station closures that led to chaos for commuters and travelers in Arlington on Friday evening are continuing through Monday, but Metro has added more shuttle buses in an effort to help riders cope with the closures.

However, if you're traveling into or out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport for the long Veterans Day weekend, you may want to reconsider taking Metro.

Both the airport and Crystal City stations on the Blue and Yellow lines have been closed since Friday and will remain shut down through Monday.

In addition, the Orange, Silver, Blue and Green lines are operating on weekend levels of service Monday. That means off-peak fares and trains every six to 12 minutes.

Metro is open Monday from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Metro station shutdowns caused a commuting nightmare on Friday, with travelers and drivers sharing their frustrations. Rideshares and drivers got stuck in traffic jams out of the airport, and employees told riders to expect a two-hour wait to board shuttle buses.

Metro has apologized, blaming the mix of traffic and weather on the delays. The transit system has now added more shuttle buses.

Shuttle buses are replacing trains between Pentagon City and Braddock Road. Extra express shuttles are running between Braddock Road and Crystal City and Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. The shuttle buses will be free.

Trains will mostly run every 12 to 15 minutes Monday.

Workers are installing new concrete grout pads beneath the rails, which means trains can't move over the tracks, WMATA says.

You can find more information on the WMATA website.

Metro says the work was rescheduled from Nov. 2 through Nov. 5 to reduce the impact on commuters.

Metro released a list of alternate bus and rail routes that may be more convenient for those traveling to Crystal City or Reagan National Airport:

Note that regional lines will observe alternate schedules for Veterans Day. Check your local bus lines before traveling.
