Don't approach or touch downed lines

There has been an increase in reports of downed trees, branches, and limbs across the Washington, DC region due to the strong winds and heavy snows overnight.

George Washington Parkway, Rock Creek Parkway and Baltimore-Washington Parkway were all closed periodically Saturday due to downed trees, said U.S. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser, who added there several abandoned vehicles on the streets which had to cleared as well.

A downed tree that hit power lines also shut down Canal Road between Arizona Avenue and Foxhall Road in northwest DC earlier in the day. Urban Forestry crews were able to move the tree and Canal Road has been reopened, but drivers have been advised to proceed carefully.

MacArthur Boulevard can also be used as an alternate route.

Residents are reminded to not approach or touch downed lines and to report any incidents immediately. Call 911 for any live wires.

To report downed trees in the District, call 311 and give a specific address, including building number and street name, if available, so crews can quickly identify the location.

To report downed trees on public property in Montgomery County, residents should call the Storm Operations Center at 240-777-6000.

In the City of Alexandria, downed trees that have fallen into a public roadway should be reported to the Snow Hotline at 703-746-4488.
