D.C. Police are investigating a traffic accident that left a cyclist dead Thursday morning in Northwest D.C.

Investigators say that 50-year-old Andre Brands was riding his bicycle south on 11th Street NW shortly after 10 a.m. when he entered the intersection with U Street NW and was struck by a Nissan Altima traveling east on U Street.

Brands was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Altima did not sustain any injuries.

Police say that Brands was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. A decision about filing charges has not yet been made.
