Beltway Traffic Backed Up for Miles After Crash in Maryland

The Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway was backed up for four miles before evening rush hour Thursday because of a crash, officials said.

A crash on the Inner Loop of I-495 at Rockville Pike (MD 355/Exit 34) initially shut down a section of the Beltway in Maryland, the Maryland State Highway Administration said.

The three right lanes of traffic then were blocked, the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination program said on Twitter. Two left lanes got by.

All lanes had reopened as of 5 p.m., the highway administration said. Drivers were advised to expect delays.

Someone was hurt in the crash. Additional details were not released immediately.
