Beltway Shift, Closures This Weekend

HOT Lanes construction in northern Virginia will likely trigger delays and backups for inner loop drivers this weekend.

Saturday night, all four lanes of I-495 North (Inner Loop) will shift to the right after the Braddock Road (Route 620) overpass to near the Little River Turnpike (Route 236) Interchange, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

To prepare for the traffic shift, three right lanes on I-495 north from Braddock Road to Little River Turnpike will be closed Saturday at 9:30 p.m. until 9 a.m. After midnight, all lanes on I-495 north will close for up to 30 minutes at a time to complete the traffic shift.

All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when they drive through that area. Crews will be working on HOT Lanes construction in the center of the Beltway.

Bridge and road work will also cause other Beltway closures.

The I-66 westbound ramp to I-495 south and the left I-66 eastbound HOV ramp to I-495 south/north will also be closed.

Motorists will be detoured from I-495 south to I-66 west, to Exit 62, Nutley Street. Follow signage to I-66 east back to I-495 south. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
