DC Police give the details on bee incident at Rock Creek Park
WASHINGTON -- At about noon Thursday at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center on Glover Road, wasps attacked a group of students.
D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says officials responded to the Rock Creek Nature Center on Glover Road in northwest Washington about noon Thursday. Piringer says
Eight girls were evaluated for wasp stings, D.C. Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer said. Two who were stung multiple times were taken to Children's Hospital.
Park rangers led a group of students from a private Alexandria college prep school, The Washington Post reported. The students were warned about wasps nests in rotting and felled trees prior to the tour, but some apparently failed to heed that warning.
Fire and EMS received another report a few hours later, Piringer said. Sixteen more children, between the ages of 5 and 7, and two adults were stung in the same area, bringing the total victims to 26.
Paramedics are transporting those victims as a precaution, Piringer said, but their injuries are not serious.
