Bedbugs Found at Maryland Library

The public library in Urbana, Md., has a case of bedbugs.

Officials at Frederick County Public Libraries said Monday they have temporarily closed the Urbana library bookdrop after an employee spotted bedbugs in a children's book there Friday morning. The employee had worked at a hotel where she had received training on what to look for.

Interlibrary loans involving the Urbana branch also have been suspended.

Pest control experts advised the library to lock material from the bookdrop and some material and carts from the building's circulation inside a truck parked outdoors, library officials said. The plan is to let the sun bring the truck's internal temperature to 120 degrees for at least 30 minutes and bake out the pests.

The library has been fumigated twice as a precaution, News4's Jane Watrel reported.
