HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- Does a bear tweet in the woods?

Maybe not, but bear hunters apparently do. And the Maryland Department of Natural Resources wants to reach them.

The agency will use Twitter to keep hunters informed of the harvest during the season that opens Oct. 26, officials said Thursday.

The DNR has set a quota of 60 to 85 black bears, and the hunt will end when the tally gets within that range.

Tweeting is just another way of keeping hunters informed, Bear Project Leader Harry Spiker said. The agency also posts updates daily on its Web site and a dial-in recording.
