Baltimore Co. Rescuers' Boat Capsizes

A swift-water rescuers' boat capsized in the Patapsco River, according to Baltimore County fire officials, but both firefighters on board are safe.

Swift boat teams converged for several rescues near Frederick and River roads near the Howard County line Wednesday afternoon, public safety officials said.

Four firefighters were responding to a stranded car when they got stuck on a pole, Capt. Robert Murray Sr. said. They tied up the boat and bailed out.

Two other firefighters responding as backup capsized, Murray said. One was washed downstream and managed to swim to shore and help rescue his companion from a tree. Murray said the second firefighter was taken to an area hospital with a strained shoulder.
