Babysitter Charged After Children Found Unsupervised: Sheriff

Children found in dangerous circumstances

A babysitter is facing charges after letting three young boys, who she was supposed to be watching, wander off on their own, authorities said.

One of the kids turned up at a Taco Bell a mile away on Warren Road in Stafford Saturday afternoon. Joann Cole was working the drive-thru window when she saw a 7-year-old boy who appeared upset. She said he was crying and he said he was lost so she took him inside and tried to calm him down while waiting for Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies to arrive.

When authorities arrived, the boy told them he had wandered away from an apartment on Cynthia's Place with two other boys – 4- and 6-year-old  brothers. They had gotten separated.

Their babysitter, 22-year-old Lasheika Harmon, was supposed to have been watching them, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies found the brothers in a field near a retention pond. They drove the boys around until one of them pointed to the apartment complex and they were all reunited with their parents.

Harmon was charged with three counts of felony child neglect.
