Baby Boy Born Along Montgomery County Highway

Most people on Interstate 270 in the morning are in a hurry. But one baby was so ready to greet the world, he didn't bother waiting for his mother to reach a hospital early Thursday.

As if a roadside birth wasn't surprising enough, Jacob Nelson was born breech, reported WTOP.com.

His parents-to-be had driven about six miles when mom Amanda realized they had to pull over along I-270 near Shady Grove Road in Rockville, Maryland.

Dad Jonathan Nelson, of Germantown, Maryland, told WTOP that he had to act quickly -- a leg and foot arrived first, and they were blue.

Little Jacob arrived around 3:50 a.m., and Nelson, who has CPR training, got help from dispatchers over the phone as he tied off the baby's umbilical cord and cleared his mouth and nose.

"Everyone is healthy," Nelson told WTOP. And mom? "She's ecstatic." (Read the full interview with WTOP.com here.)

Paramedics took the newborn and his mom to an area hospital, where both are doing well.
