BWI To Close Major Runway on Monday

Airport says closure won't affect travelers

One of the two main runways at BWI Airport is closing this week.

Crews will begin a reconstruction project on Monday, and it's expected to remain closed for  the next 60 days. Those who live near BWI may notice a change in flight patterns as planes share the same runway.

The repair is just one of many projects designed to upgrade the airport and improve safety over the next few years. Those projects also include improving the areas surrounding the runways and upgrading navigational tools.

BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean told The Washington Post that the closure should not affect travelers, except during "poor or extreme weather conditions," in which case the closure would exacerbate delays.
