Average D.C. Home Homes Skyrocket 22 Percent in a Year: Report

WBJ: Average selling price of a single-family home in D.C. was $809,843 in September

The average price of a home sold in D.C. in September: $800,000.

No, that's not a typo.

The Washington Business Journal reports that the average selling price of a single-family home in the district was $809,843 in September.

That's an increase of $149,527 from last year ago, a 22-percent increase, the Journal reports.

Granted, the median price for a single-family home is still "only" around $600,000.

The Journal reports:

Nearly 300 homes traded hands in September, and the total number of sales for the year is up 11.7 percent. So houses are selling, and at higher prices than ever before.

The D.C. real estate market has long been viewed as close to recession-proof due to the high number of government jobs in the area.
