Attorneys Argue to Overturn Leopold Conviction

Lawyers for former Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold are trying to get his misconduct charges overturned and to enable him to run for office again.

Attorneys for Leopold and the state prosecutor's office argued before the state's intermediate appellate court on Wednesday.

Leopold resigned last year within days of being found guilty by a judge of misconduct in office. The charges related to Leopold having a secretary empty his urine catheter bag and for using members of his security detail to perform political activities while they were on the job.

Leopold was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 30 days of house arrest.

A three-judge panel in the Court of Special Appeals heard arguments in the case on Wednesday. It's unclear when they will make a ruling.
