Attention, Shoppers! Wegmans Is Coming to DC

We thought this day would never come, but it's finally here!

Wegmans is coming to Washington, D.C.

According to The Washington Business Journal, Wegmans will take over the Fannie Mae headquarters in the Tenleytown neighborhood of northwest Washington. Fannie Mae is leaving the location for a new one along 15th Street, Northwest.

The WBJ said the highly popular grocer will be an anchor for a planned redevelopment of the site in the 3900 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest.

The location will be the grocer's first inside the D.C. beltway. Currently, Wegmans' locations in Alexandria and Fairfax in Virginia and Lanham in Maryland are the closest to Washington.

But don't expect the Wegmans experience you're used to. According to the WBJ, Wegmans' D.C. location will be much smaller than its other locations. The store will also feature a standalone restaurant above the store.

Work on the new store will not begin until Fannie Mae moves to its new location in late 2018. The earliest the Wegmans will open is late 2021.
