Police in Alexandria, Va., arrested a man in the abductions and assaults of two women Tuesday evening at an abandoned office building once used by SWAT for training.
James Savage Click, 23, was charged with two counts of abductions and two counts of felonious assault.
The two women told police they responded to an ad on the Internet for an apartment in Alexandria.
When the women arrived at the building at Eisenhower Avenue and Mill Road, a man grabbed them, pulled them into the building and started hitting them, police said.
The women were able to fight back and eventually get away from the attacker, authorities said.
The SWAT team arrived minutes later and searched the building for three hours but were unable to find the suspect.
However, a man who lives in the neighborhood told police Wednesday morning he believes he and other neighbors saw a suspicious man hanging around the building on the day of the attack.
"We saw a guy fitting the description walking down here along the edge of the field. He got to the corner, looked like he saw the police car and turned around and walked away very quickly. And then came back and was walking out here, kind of strangely, looking around," the neighbor told News4's Tracee Wilkins.
An officer arrested the allegedly suspicious man at the Eisenhower Metro Station. He was questioned and photographed before police released him and passed his information to detectives.
Authorities describe the attacker as a tall white man with a thin build. He has green eyes and long reddish brown hair pulled back into a blond ponytail. The suspect was wearing a three-quarter sleeve black top, long black coat and black pants at the time of the attack, police said.
