At Least Four Sent to Hospitals After Fight at Ballou High School

At least four people were sent to hospitals after students were sprayed with pepper spray following a fight at Ballou High School.

A group of students began fighting in the hallway in between classes on Friday, witnesses told News4's Mark Segraves. At some point during the melee, someone released pepper spray or Mace into the crowd.

Students poured out of the school, some with tears streaming down their face, Segraves reported.

"My nephew got Maced walking into his classroom," said a person who was driving a young man, with a cloth to his eyes, away from Ballou.

Emergency personnel also treated many students on the scene. The ones transported to hospitals had serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Police said no students have been arrested.

School officials told Segraves that at least 10 students were involved in the fight, and that they are investigating further.

"We are continuing to look into the details and will take the appropriate disciplinary action," the statement read.

One student was taken from the school by police, but that was not related to the fight, Segraves reported.
