11 Injured in Serious Crash on New York Ave.

Eleven people -- including children -- were injured in a serious car crash on New York Avenue shortly before noon Tuesday.

The crash, at New York Avenue eastbound shortly after the intersection with Brentwood Road, apparently began when one car rear-ended another but involved as many as four cars, police told News4's Pat Collins.

Police called it a mass casualty situation. The eastbound lanes of New York Avenue were closed for nearly two hours and reopened shortly before 2 p.m.

The injured were treated and transported to hospitals. The injuries are said to be not serious.
