Arrest in Elementary School Sex Assault: Police

Child touched in appropriately in D.C. school

Detectives arrested a man in a sex assault that occurred inside a D.C. elementary school last week, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

A man walked in to Ketcham Elementary School without authority Feb. 1 and inappropriately touched a student, according to D.C. Public Schools. The man said he was looking for a student at the school in Southeast, and an aide claimed to have recognized him and assigned an 11-year-old girl to escort him to a classroom, in violation of school policy.

The girl told police the man touched her inappropriately.

Davon Rashad Wood, 21, of Southeast, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree child sexual abuse.

Visitors are supposed to ring a bell that also has a video camera to gain entry into the school. They are also required to check in with security, sign in and present identification.

The school’s security measures are under review.
