Arrest in D.C. Teen's Stabbing Death

D.C. police say they have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a teenager, a killing that came just hours before a 18-year-old woman was shot and killed in the District.

Police arrested Jibril Abdul-Muwwakil, 24, of Southeast D.C. Friday and charged him with second degree murder in the stabbing death of Jonathon Adams, 17.

Adams was killed in the 4300 block of Halley Terrace in southeast D.C. around 6 p.m. Thursday. Police say the teen was stabbed in the throat inside an apartment building and ran out into the street, where he collapsed near a parked car.

"Doesn't make any sense. Everyday, if you read the paper or listen to TV, someone is killing someone for no reason at all," said Frances Bolden, who lives near the scene.

Less than three hours later, 18-year-old Tykia Dickerson was found lying on a sidewalk in the 3600 block of Jay Street NE. Police say she had been shot. Dickerson was taken to an area hospital, where she died.

Police do not believe there is a connection between the two murders.
