Police Make Arrest in Sexual Assault From 1970s

Police arrested Lawrence Runion, 64, who was involved in crimes against two juvenile victims in the 1970s.

Manassas City police recently closed a cold case investigation that dates back to the 1970s.

Police arrested Lawrence Runion, 64, who was involved in sexual assault crimes against two juveniles in 1975 and 1977. Officials made the arrest on May 20, closing an investigation that spanned over a decade.

Manassas police reopened the case in 1997 and identified Runion as a suspect in 2009, however Runion was serving separate charges in Florida at that time.

Upon his release from jail earlier this year, Runion was extradited from Florida to Virginia where he was served with the long-standing warrants.

Runion was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. He was held without bond and police say he has a court date pending in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
