Arrest Made in July D.C. Death

Northeast man accused of beating elderly man to death

D.C. Police have charged a man with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man that took place earlier this year.

Lloyd Bright, 45, of Northeast, was arrested on Friday for the beating death of 61-year-old Darryl Sweet, Sr., of Southeast.

Sweet was found unconscious and unresponsive in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast on the evening of July 26. He died the next day at a local hospital from what detectives described as an "internal head wound." The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide by blunt force trauma to the head.

Police offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. It is not clear if any reward money will be distributed.
