Arrest Made in Fatal House Party Shooting in Mechanicsville

The man accused in a fatal shooting at a Maryland house party has been arrested, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office announced Monday night.

Alan Michael Rangel, 21, was taken into custody Monday. Rangel's girlfriend was also taken into custody.

Deputies were called to a home on Lavender Lane on July 25 for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 21-year-old Cody Lacey suffering from a  gunshot wound. Lacey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rangel has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence.

Earlier this week, deputies arrested two men and charged them with accessory after the fact. The sheriff's office identified those men as Demetrius Burks-Jeffrey, 22, of Chaptico, and Wade Braithwaite, 21, of Lexington Park.

Evidence related to the slaying was also recovered at the home where the two men were arrested.
