Sorry! No Pay Raises, Just Raising Taxes

Arlington County workers will have to forgo pay raises this year due to a budget shortfall. No C-Notes in the wallet this year.

Arlington County's new chair says that County employees shouldn't expect a pay increase in 2009.  Barbara Favola also says that taxes will have to be raised.

Every year, the Arlington County Board meets on New Year's Day to outline its priorities for the next twelve months. This year, Arlington is struggling with an economic downturn as it faces a $35 million shortfall in its budget.

In her first speech as County Board chair, Favola emphasized long-term sustainability. She said Arlington is in a good position to handle a recession.
