Six homes were evacuated in Arlington after a gas main ruptured, according to the Arlington Fire Department.

Officials said crews with a gas company were laying down new gas lines when they hit an existing line off 12th Street and Cleveland Street North at about 2 p.m. Friday. A strong odor of gas spread throughout the neighborhood before flames shot 15 feet into the air, officials said.

The Arlington Fire Department is now working with the gas company to stop the leak.

No one was injured.
