Arlington Co. Cracks Down on Loud Noise

A new noise ordinance in Arlington County is telling people to pipe down or pay up.

The county board voted unanimously to approve a new ordinance they said would address community concerns and a growing Arlington. A previous ordinance was struck down by the Virginia Supreme Court in 2009 for being too vague.

The updated ordinance seeks to crack down on loud music, nighttime gatherings in residential areas, idling commercial vehicles, use of lawn and garden maintenance equipment, and animal noises.

Fines have increased from $25 to not less than $100 or more than $2,500.
