Arlington Approves Cab Fare Increase

Will raise fare to $2.10 per mile

The Arlington County Board unanimously approved an amendment to the county's Taxicab Ordinance Saturday morning  that would increase fares by 10 cents per mile.

The board voted 5-0 to implement the increase, which would raise fares to $2.10 cents per mile from the previous cost of $2.00 per mile.

In addition to the general fare increase, the board voted to restrict the county's extra passenger charge to passengers aged 12 years old or over and added a requirement that all Arlington-based taxi cabs accept credit cards as of December 1, 2012.

The fare changes will take effect on January 1, 2012. The most recent fare increase occurred in 2008, when the board raised the mileage charge from $1.80 per mile to $2.00 per mile.
