Teenager Struck, Killed by Metro Train

WASHINGTON -- A teenager has died after being struck by a Metro train Thursday afternoon.

Trains shared the same track between the Georgia Avenue and U Street stations on the Green line after the boy was struck by an inbound Green Line train at the Columbia Heights station just before 2 p.m., according to Metro. Riders experienced delays in both directions.

The teen was found underneath the train. Power to the third rail had to be cut before he could be moved. He was pronounced dead after being taken away from the station.

Investigators believe the teen -- a sophomore at Bell-Lincoln Multicultural School in the neighborhood -- was on the tracks intentionally.

The Columbia Heights station was closed until 2:40 p.m. Officials requested shuttle bus service to help move passengers around the incident.
