Anne Arundel Officer Accused of Soliciting Sex While on Duty

An Anne Arundel County police officer has been arrested following allegations he made sexual advances toward women while on duty -- and that he asked two women for sex.

Detective Brian Houseman was arrested and has been charged with two counts of prostitution, four counts of misconduct in office, as well as second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense and extortion by a government employee.

The allegations were exposed in April. The victim -- whom Houseman had investigated in an unrelated case in November -- told police the detective had harassed and sexually assaulted her.

She said Houseman texted her a picture of his genitalia, and that Houseman persuaded her to have sex with him after he suggested he could "put in a good word" for a person she knew who was facing criminal charges.

Police issued search warrants and learned other allegations. A woman under suspicion in a stalking case told police Houseman texted her with inappropriate, sexual comments. In March and April, Houseman allegedly solicited two different women for sex; both times, Houseman was on duty.

Houseman, 44, has been with the Anne Arundel Police Department for 13 years. During the criminal proceding and internal investigation, his police duties have been suspended, and he has been assigned to administrative duties.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department asked anyone with information about these incidents should contact the Anne Arundel County Sex Offense Unit at 410-222-4732 or contact the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at 410-222-4700 or Metro Crime Stoppers.
