Fire Engulfs Police Officer's Home, Cruiser in Damascus

    A police officer and his wife are being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire engulfed their home in Damascus, Maryland, overnight. "Anytime you have a residential house fire in the middle of the night, it's not always the case where everybody survives," one neighbor said. News4's Justin Finch has the story.     Ammunition inside a police cruiser in Damascus, Maryland, exploded Friday morning after flames from a burning home spread to the cruiser.

    Montgomery County firefighters were called to the home on Haney Avenue just before 3 a.m. for a report of a fire. When they arrived, they found the home and a police cruiser that was parked next to it on fire. 

    Fire officials say ammunition inside the vehicle exploded as a result of the fire. 

    No one was injured by the ammunition.

    Two residents were transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. 

    The cause of the fire is under investigation.
