For almost five years, Gracie has been protecting Alexandria as the police department's first female police dog. Now Gracie is in a real fight -- for her life.

The 7-year-old German shepherd is fighting kidney cancer and has just months to live.

Despite her condition, she continues to do well and loves her work. Her veterinarians say her work actually benefits her in her final weeks.

Gracie will likely be taken off patrol duty soon and just work bomb-sniffing duty.
