Men Charged With Stealing Police Cruisers

One cruiser was stolen from outside a police officer's home; another disappeared from Princess Street

Two men have been charged in the December theft of two Alexandria police cruisers.

Daniel Michael Harris, 31, was arrested Sunday during a traffic stop in Anne Arundel County. Corie Gezono Yates, 33, was arrested Tuesday at the Alexandria courthouse.

Authorities say they stole a Ford Crown Victoria cruiser from outside a police officer's home on Duke Street on Dec. 13.

The cruiser was found the following day in Fort Washington, Md. -- but a Remington 870 shotgun and a Panasonic Toughbook mobile computer were missing from that cruiser, police said.

That night, another officer parked a cruiser in the 1500 block of Princess Street. It was discovered missing around 4:35 a.m.

Both men are charged with grand larceny auto and felony possession of stolen property. Yates is also charged with conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Harris is being held in Annapolis, where he is awaiting extradition. Yates is being held without bond.
