A northern Virginia rescue group is housing more than dozen poodles that were left on the doorstep of a small animal shelter in Cumberland, Md.

Debbie Marson, a volunteer with A Forever Home in Chantilly, says her group picked up the dogs on Wednesday night. Marson says volunteers will foster the dogs until they are adopted, and will groom and handle any medical problems or issues they may have.

The small poodles, including puppies, were left at the shelter in Cumberland with a note saying that their owner has dementia and cannot care for them. The Maryland shelter has limited space and could not adequately accommodate all the dogs.

One volunteer tells News4 the dogs are dirty, stinky but adorable.  Right now the dogs are in foster care and will see the vet later Thursday.  Those healthy enough will be put up for adoption.
