All year long they gave their time and energy to help people in need, and now 25 people have been rewarded for their efforts by a local jeweler.

Helen McCormick, who operates The House Student Leadership Center in Woodbridge, is the latest recipient.

The center offers before and after school meals and academic help and mentoring, along with sports and activities for middle and high school students in need. It's helped 50,000 students in the past 10 years.

Jewelry By Design owner Jenny Caro chose McCormick as one of 25 people to surprise with a gift in celebration of the business's 25th anniversary.
