96-Year-Old Man to Get Bachelor's Degree

A 96-year-old North Carolina man will get his degree from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, more than seven decades after he attended the school.

William Frohbose will be awarded a bachelor of liberal studies degree during a special ceremony on Friday.

Frohbose attended the Ashland school from 1937 to 1939 then transferred to the Medical College of Virginia, where he earned his doctorate in 1943.

The school has a policy in which students who attended for three years and then transferred to the Medical College of Virginia are offered a bachelor of liberal studies degree. Frohbose's granddaughter recently wrote to college President Robert Lindgren to request a degree for her grandfather.

Frohbose retired as a urologist in 1983. He lives in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Three generations will attend the ceremony with Frohbose.
