89-Year-Old Man Killed in School Bus Crash in Annandale

Driver charged with failure to pay time and attention

An 89-year-old man was killed by a school bus in Annandale, Va., and the driver was cited in the crash.

There were students on the bus at the time of the crash, which happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Joon Seok Ahn, 89, of the 6900 block of Columbia Pike.

Ahn was in a crosswalk on Columbia Pike when a Fairfax County school bus struck him. The bus had been stopped in the southbound turn lanes of Gallows Road when Ahn entered the crosswalk.

Ahn was transported to a local hospital, where he died overnight.

The driver of the bus, Cristina Fernandez, 30, was charged with failure to pay time and attention. Police said speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. They are continuing to investigate.
