A good Samaritan suffered a fatal heart attack while trying to help an 8-year-old girl who had been struck by a vehicle in D.C. Saturday night, fire officials said.
The child was hit in the 5300 block of Chillum Place NE about 8:50 p.m., according to police.
A man died after trying to save the young girl from being struck by the vehicle, a spokesperson for D.C. Fire and EMS said. He had a heart attack and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said the child is going to be OK.
The driver remained on the scene.
