8-Year-Old Boy Grazed by Bullet in Southeast DC

An 8-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet in southeast Washington on Saturday night, police said.

D.C. police said the shooting happened in the 1400 block of 41st Street, Southeast, about 8 p.m. Saturday, not far from the Fort Davis Recreation Center. Investigators said the boy was playing on a basketball court with others when they heard two or three gunshots.

Police said the boy was knocked to the ground while the group tried to flee. He told investigators that he felt a burn to his lower leg and discovered he was grazed by a bullet.

The child's injuries are not life threatening, and he was taken to Children's Hospital for further treatment.
