8 Hurt After Deck Collapse in Ellicott City

Twenty people tumbled 12 feet onto the ground when a deck collapsed off a home

Eight people were hospitalized on Saturday after a deck collapsed in Ellicott City, sending them tumbling down 12 feet.

Twenty people were on the deck on the 4900 block of Bonnie Branch Road when it fell, a Howard County Fire and Rescue spokesman said.

The entire 20-foot by 40-foot structure detached from an upper floor of the home, photos show.

Several people called 911 and the calls were classified as a mass casualty incident. More than 40 firefighters and paramedics responded.

Three people were taken to a shock trauma center in Baltimore. Five were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening, fire officials said.
