A 6-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a FedEx truck in Fairfax County Wednesday evening.
Police say the crash was reported just after 5 p.m. in the 9300 block of Mount Vernon Circle in the Alexandria section of the county.
The child was playing in the driveway of a home and rode a scooter into the street when he was struck. He was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors expressed concern because they say drivers often speed through the streets.
"There's a lot of children in this neighborhood," Cletus Miller said. "I go through here every day but I go very slowly ... they should all slow down."
FedEx officials say their thoughts and prayers are with the child's family. The cause of the crash has not yet been released, but Fairfax County police remained on scene throughout the night investigating.
