6-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted Waiting for Ice Cream

Police need the public's help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in Silver Spring, Md. earlier this month.

July 9, the girl and her 13-year-old cousin played in Tanglewood Park while the adults they were with stayed at a nearby pool. The younger girl came up to the curb on Schubert Drive to wait for an ice cream truck at approximately 5 p.m., when a suspect, approximately 16 years of age, touched her inappropriately.

"Our parks are a very safe system," Lt. Rick Pelicano with Maryland National Capital Park Police said. "This is a highly unusual event for us. It's not a common occurrence at all and seems like an isolated incident."

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male with brown eyes, a dimple on his chin and a small diamond piercing in his left ear above the earlobe.

If you have any information on the incident or the man's identity, contact police at 301-929-2774.
