Three men and two teens bound and held four adult family members captive overnight at a Silver Spring, Maryland, apartment in an effort to rob a nearby check-cashing business one of the victims worked at, court documents say.
Edwin Ajeo, 16, of Silver Spring; Younus Muayad Jafar Alaameri, 23, of Silver Spring; Bobby Johnson, 26, of Suitland; Dalik Oxely, 19, of Suitland; and Karon Sayles, 25, of Suitland have been arrested in connection with the home invasion, police said.
According to the documents filed in Montgomery County, the four intruders talked their way inside the Silver Spring home on Aug. 1 claiming they were there to do work. Johnson, the final suspect charged along with the four initial attackers, is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, The Washington Post reports.
One victim, who is a grandfather, told News4 that five men stormed into the family's house, stabbed his son-in-law, stole his son-in-law's car and took money. The family, including a 7-year-old boy, was held hostage in their own home for hours, the man said. He asked to be identified only as Orlando, for his safety. He fought back tears as he spoke about the ordeal.
Montgomery County police and Orlando's family believe the family was targeted because Orlando's daughter works at a check-cashing business. The men took her to the business and tried, unsuccessfully, to rob it.
The suspects were charged with offenses including home invasion, armed robbery, false imprisonment and theft.
Officials say the suspects were jailed without bond as of Sunday. None has yet to present a defense in court.
