Four people were killed and one injured in a two-vehicle collision near Chester, Md., according to the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Cox Neck Road near Jones Road, spokesman Dale Patrick said.

The deceased were in one vehicle, Patrick said. The driver of the second vehicle survived. The driver was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The condition of the driver was not immediately known.

Speed appears to have been a factor in the head-on collision, Patrick said, but it is still under investigation.

The identities of the victims were not released pending notification of family members.
