3 Deer Attacked by 2 Dogs Inside Maryland School

School was canceled again for some students in Anne Arundel County Monday, but not because of snow.

Three deer crashed through a glass door at Southern Middle School in Lothian before 4 a.m., followed by two dogs, which attacked the deer.

The school’s alarm sounded, and responding Anne Arundel County police saw the broken door, chairs knocked over in the lobby and a deer on the floor being attacked by a German shepherd.

Animal Control captured the German shepherd and another dog, possibly a black Lab mix, police said. Neither wore a collar.

The other two deer were found suffering from injuries. Of the three, one died from extensive injuries and the other two were humanely euthanized.

The dogs’ owners were located, police said, but the dogs remain in Animal Control’s custody.

Southern was closed for cleanup, which meant no school for Lothian Elementary School students, either. Their classes are currently being held on Southern’s campus.
