2nd Suspect Sought in District Heights Carjacking

Suspect identified as 20-year-old Christopher Wayne Barnes of Northeast

Prince George's County Police have identified a second suspect wanted in connection with a carjacking that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash earlier this week in the District.

20-year-old Christopher Wayne Barnes, of Southeast, has been identified as the second suspect. Earlier this week, 17-year-old Malik Hasaam Wilkins, of Northeast, was arrested and charged as an adult with armed carjacking, fleeing and eluding, and a weapons charge.

Police say Wilkins and Barnes carjacked a Mercedes in District Heights early Thursday morning. As they fled, the suspects crossed into the District and struck a car while attempting to turn on to Texas Avenue in Southeast. The suspects continued their drive and struck a school bus in the 500 block of Ridge Road SE.

Wilkins was arrested trying to flee the scene of the second crash on foot. He is currently awaiting extradition to Prince George's County. Police say Barnes was able to get away. A passenger in the first car the suspects hit was taken to a local hospital for observation. Three students on the school bus that was struck suffered minor injuries.

Anyone with information on Barnes' whereabouts is asked to contact Prince George's County Police at 301-772-4425 or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-8477. A cash reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
