Prince George's County to Hire 27 New Firefighters

Prince George’s County is getting more firefighters.

U.S. Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen announced Wednesday the Prince George’s County Fire Department was selected to receive federal funds to hire 27 new full time firefighters.

“We trust our first responders to protect our homes and our families,” said Cardin. “In turn, we have the responsibility to ensure they have all the resources and people necessary to keep themselves and others safe.”

The $3.56 million grant comes from a Federal Emergency Management Agency program, which enhances fire departments around the country by providing funding for additional staffing.

“This grant will ensure that Prince George's County will have appropriate staffing levels to reach the call for help,” said Van Hollen. “Whether it’s an accident on I-495, a house fire in Largo, or a medical emergency like a heart attack."
