A 2-year-old boy died after falling from an apartment building window on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C.Thursday afternoon, police say.

A screen and the child fell from an eighth-floor window at 4545 Connecticut Ave. NW about 1 p.m.

A dentist who works in an office at the building performed CPR on the boy while a woman who lives there called 911.

D.C. Fire and EMS took the boy to a hospital where he died.

D.C. police are investigating what led to the fall. Police said at least one parent was home at the time the child fell out of the window.

Tracey Lucas was inside her apartment on the third floor of the building.

“I see clothes coming out the window and I immediately called the front desk because I’m like, ‘Hey, somebody s throwing clothes out the window,’ and as I’m saying that, I see something in my peripheral go by fast and I said, ‘I think they’re throwing out furniture too,’” she said.
