Maryland Natural Resources Police rescued two deer from a mud pit in Anne Arundel County Saturday .
In photos shared on the department's Twitter account, officers can be seen using boards to cross the mud to reach the two bucks. They said the animals were stuck neck-deep in mud.
After two and half hours, police were able to pull the deer to safety.
Once freed, the deer ran into the woods.
