Barrage of Bullets Wounds 2 Juveniles, 2 Adults in Southeast DC

Two juveniles and two adults were hurt in Anacostia Wednesday night as neighbors say more than 30 shots rang out -- and one flew over a baby's crib.

The victims were shot about 8:50 p.m. on the 1500 block of Butler Street SE, D.C. police said. All four people were conscious and breathing, police said.

Neighbors said they lost count of the number of shots, which shattered car windows and tore through homes.

Luween Lindsay was nearly hit by one of the bullets. One bullet lodged in a windowsill. The other flew through a window, over her son's crib, through a wall, through a lampshade and then into a shelf, she showed News4.

When the shot flew past her, she was sitting on her couch, working on her computer.

"It was scary. When I heard the first shot, I actually thought maybe some kids were playing with fireworks," she said. "But then I heard two more shots and I heard the glass shatter. I got down on the floor."

Another neighbor, Joel Bullock, said she enacted her emergency shooting plan when she heard four shots outside her window.

"When we hear stuff like that, don't ask questions, don't look out the window. Just fall out the bed and crawl," she said. "That's what I did."

One of the bullets flew into her home.

"If I was walking, that bullet would have gone right into me," Bullock said.

The shooting began when a gold-colored car pulled up to the block and a man opened fire, police said.

"It's just senseless, reckless and irresponsible," Cmdr. Vendette Parker said.

Detectives are working the case.

"We received quite a few leads," Parker said. "We're hoping one at least pans out to get us the closure that we need."

D.C. police initially said two teenagers and one adult had been shot.

Police are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who can provide information.
